Lee Sankowich

"That challenge, Marin Theatre Company Artistic Director Lee Sankowich has met very well." - Robert Hurwitt, San Fancisco Examiner ● "Sankowich hits all the right notes as he negotiates his way through the emotional and stylistic twists and turns of Lett's challenging script." - Backstage ●
Lee Sankowich is a visionary theatre director, producer, and now playwright, whose work has lit up stages from Off-Broadway to the West Coast and abroad, for over five decades. Best known for his landmark productions of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and his fearless leadership at Marin Theatre Company and the Zephyr Theatre, Lee brings stories to life with boldness, empathy and a deep respect for the human spirit. His innovative editorial instinct was highlighted by the LA Times for reviving lesser-known Tennessee Williams plays: "much more interesting to stage than doing another masterpiece." As he puts it: "Some plays entertain, others provoke—but the best ones do both. That's the kind I live to direct."
